Bat Trang commune locates next to Dong Du commune, Da Ton commune and Xuan Quan commune. More than 700 years ago, people of Bo Bat village (now in Yen Thanh commune, Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province) followed King Ly Cong Uan from Hoa Lu to Thang Long - the new capital city. They set up a pottery-making ward (construction bricks) on the banks of the Red River.

Bat Trang commune consists of two villages: Bat Trang and Giang Cao. Bat Trang village is an ancient village on the left bank of the Red River with a long history associated with Thang Long - Hanoi. This is both a craft village and a literary village with 9 people passing the national exams and over 200 people passing the exams of lower levels. It can be said that in the Northern Delta region, this is the only village not associated with agricultural production, but a successful village in terms of education, trade and ceramic production, with many people were mandarin officials. Although Giang Cao village developed pottery making later, the young artisans here are highly skilled and devoted with their jobs. They have created products that are both suitable for the needs of the market and creative according to personal preferences.

In recent years, along with the development of society, production technology as well as product models, Bat Trang commune is known as a place where pottery products have reached sophisticated levels and become a place that attracts many tourists.
